Newcastle United have made a £7.2million offer for Paris Saint-Germain defender Stanley N’Soki, according to Get French Football News.

The sports news outlet claimed on their website that the Ligue 1 champions have set an asking price of £13.5million, but an offer in the range of £9million with add ons could persuade them to sell.

Get French Football News report that fellow Premier League side Southampton have also approached the left-back, an offer that was rejected and leaves the Magpies in pole position for the 20-year-old.

N’Soki is said to be desperate to leave the European giants after only featuring 12 times in the league last season.

OPINION

It is clear that Newcastle are crying out for a left-back. As it stands, if the Magpies were to stick with the five-at-the-back, Matt Ritchie would be the winger forced to fall back into a wing-back role instead. Despite it not being his preferred role, Ritchie excelled throughout the season. Should Bruce prefer to go back to a four-at-the-back formation, the signing of N’Soki would be a great piece of business to bring much needed defensive stability to the defence. The French youngster averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, and 1.5 clearances which are all impressive numbers for the powerful 20-year-old [WhoScored]. N’Soki would also be prepared to get forward and make a difference in the final third, having averaged 38.1 passes per game on top of 1.1 completed dribbles each outing [WhoScored], a stat which proves he has the ability to run at the opposition and also find a pass when needed to. All of those averages put together a young full-back who can have a great impact both in defence and attack next season should he move to St James’ Park.
