Newcastle United want to wrap up the signing of Hoffenheim striker Joelinton “in the next 48 hours”, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
The reporter, who has written for the Mirror and TeamTalk, claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning that Joelinton, 22, is due to undergo a medical with the Magpies before sealing a club-record move to St James’ Park for £36million.

It is understood that Newcastle have been trying to sign Joelinton for the last six months but it seems as though clarity over the future of the management has finally led to a breakthrough in negotiations.
OPINION
Newcastle need to try and finalise their transfer business as soon as possible because it has taken them way to long to sort out who will be their manager next season. Steve Bruce was appointed as Rafa Benitez’s successor this week, but the new Premier League season is now only weeks away and the 4-0 defeat to Wolves in China on Wednesday shows just how much work needs to be done to this side. Joelinton will hopefully be a good addition for the Magpies. He scored 11 goals and supplied nine assists in all competitions for Hoffenheim last season and as he is only 22-years-old, Mike Ashley stands a chance of making a profit on the Brazilian in the future if he shines in the Premier League. Newcastle need to stay in the Premier League for that to happen and unless additions are made in other key areas of the squad, Joelinton and his new team-mates could be preparing for life in the Championship in a years time.
