The arrival of Steve Bruce at St James’ Park has not been the easiest of rides for Newcastle United. Bruce’s former side, Sheffield Wednesday, were making it hard for the 58-year-old, who eventually resigned. The Sun first reported that Mike Ashley had paid £4million to the Championship club, with the Mirror now suggesting that Wednesday will not threaten any legal action should Newcastle send them Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons next season. Newcastle were said to have rejected the deal, something they should have reconsidered given the record of the duo in the North East. Both are nowhere near good enough to frequently play in the Premier League, as proven by the fact they spent the majority of last season in the Championship. Lazaar has never featured in the top-flight and has only made 10 appearances for the Magpies, despite joining three years ago. Aarons isn’t any better, having only made 18 Premier League outings, averaging 35 minutes every appearance [Transfermarkt]. The duo are clearly not good enough for the top flight, and many Newcastle fans seemed to agree when voicing their opinion on Twitter, with the majority urging their club to get rid of the duo, and even suggested throwing midfielder Jack Colback into the deal too.
