It’s taken while, but it finally looks as if things are hotting up on Tyneside. The disappointment of losing Rafa Benitez, swiftly followed by Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez, ensured that Newcastle United’s summer got off to a pretty rocky start, and while Steve Bruce’s appointment hasn’t exactly healed those gaping divides, at the very least, it has meant that the Magpies have been able to get moving in the transfer market. Joelinton has already arrived from Hoffenheim, and according to Football Insider, the Toon Army are keen to bring in Liverpool winger Harry Wilson too. The report suggests that United are exploring both permanent and temporary moves for the wide man, with his parent club yet to make a decision on his long term future at the club. Wilson enjoyed a stellar season in the Championship with Derby County last season, averaging 2.6 shots on goal per game, as well as 1.3 key passes [Whoscored]. A move to a top flight club where he will be guaranteed regular game time feels like the next logical step in his career, and Newcastle could certainly offer him that much. The Magpies face competition from Aston Villa, but this would be a top signing if they can pull it off.
