OPINION
It would seem that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is a manager that many Newcastle fans would like to succeed Rafa Benitez in the St James’ Park hotseat after it was reported by Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder that the Dutchman is interested in the job. Van Bronckhorst, 44, is currently without a club after leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season. During his spell at De Kuip, van Bronckhorst won Feyenoord’s first Eredivise title in 18 years and also lifted two Dutch Cup titles. He is a young manager who enjoyed has quite a successful start to his post-playing career, so maybe these Newcastle fans are right to drool over the possibility of him heading to St James’ Park this summer. Fans should not get too excited though. Mike Ashley has the potential to make a really horrific appointment to compile further misery on the Toon Army after Benitez left. There’s as much chance of an Alan Pardew return than there is of van Bronckhorst returning to English football to take charge of the Magpies.
Sources in Holland are suggesting Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains keen on the #nufc job.

Can’t understand why Giovanni van Bronckhorst hasn’t been given a much harder look by @nufc. He’s a young driven coach, he’s worked in the type of structure Ashley wants and he’s been successful. Makes perfect sense to me. #NUFC

He has also worked around the same structure a MA nufc May want to work under, and has done wonders on a small budget! Deffo my first choice

I think he would be a good appointment, based on Ashley still being owner, if a takeover happens I'd prefer someone else but think he,d do well

This is absolutely the best choice for me. Would be a great hire! Knows the league, knows the structure they want and has a wealth of experience & contacts across Europe. Get him in!! #NUFC https://t.co/uUXzJmrCno

I think out of all the names that’ve been realistically mentioned, this one piques my interest the most. https://t.co/DIVOPXATaB

He’s also out of work so wouldn’t come with any compensation buy out. He checks every box for the situation that @nufc find themselves in right now. He could literally start work tomorrow and knows the league very well. #NUFC
