OPINION
According to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, Newcastle United’s talks to sign OGC Nice forward Allan Saint-Maximin are ongoing. Many Newcastle fans are thrilled with the journalist’s update, especially as they see Saint-Maximin, 22, as a good addition to Steve Bruce’s squad at St James’ Park. Saint-Maximin’s success in the Premier League cannot be guaranteed but fans have every right to be excited by his potential arrival. The former Saint-Etienne attacker scored six goals and supplied five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Patrick Vieira’s Nice last term. He has great pace and is versatile enough to play on either wing or even up front as a centre-forward. Newcastle’s attack does not have much depth to it at the moment so getting in someone so versatile would be a good way of covering several areas. Let’s hope that Saint-Maximin can do better than recent imports from France, though that is not a hard target to hit.
