Newcastle United’s defeat against Preston on Saturday left many things to the imagination, with the contrasting debut of record-signing Joelinton taking centre stage. The Brazilian came on for the second half and almost immediately won a penalty, that was missed and the 22-year-old went on to concede a penalty, which was scored. Joelinton was handed his first start in a Magpies shirt on Tuesday evening against Hibernian and didn’t take long to open his account, scoring his first goal for the club in the first half. The powerful Brazilian forward is surely set to be a success at St James’ Park, with his physical presence and pace excellent for the lone striker role, something he has already highlighted in pre-season. Many Newcastle fans took to Twitter to celebrate his first goal for the club, with fans tipping him to win the Golden Boot award and the Ballon d’Or next season – may be a steep expectation, but they can all dream.
