Isaac Hayden was one of the standout performers under Rafael Benitez at Newcastle last season, and his form has continued into pre-season. This is despite the Daily Star reporting that he wanted to leave the club this summer. It was imperative that the club did everything they could to keep their midfield enforcer, with the former Arsenal man being their main defensive option in midfield. Hayden averaged an impressive 2.9 tackles and 1.6 interceptions in his 25 appearances [Source: WhoScored] and was the ultimate professional despite his desire to leave the club. It appears that Newcastle are set to benefit from Hayden for at least one more season after the Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards confirmed on his personal Twitter account that Hayden is most likely set to stay at St James’ Park this summer. Many Newcastle fans were jubilant with the news and took to Twitter to react to it, with one claiming the midfielder will be like a new signing.
