OPINION

The relationship between the duo of Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley to the Newcastle fans has always been sketchy, to say the least. Many Magpies’ fans have lost hope in Ashley’s ownership of the club after he allowed Rafael Benitez to leave the North East, and still hasn’t found a replacement. Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce confirmed to Sky Sports on Saturday that he had held talks with the club over the role – a move that is surely a massive step back after the wonders worked by Benitez. Bruce would be the wrong appointment, with the 58-year-old’s biggest achievement in his career being an FA Cup semi-final. The Owls boss is also one of only two managers to hold a win percentage of less than 30% after managing 250 Premier League games. That only proves how much of a step back it would be. The Sun journalist Alan Nixon revealed on his personal Twitter account on Sunday, that Charnley had stayed in England to hold talks with Bruce rather than make the pre-season trip to China. Many Newcastle fans reacted to the update with disbelief, as they scratched their head on why their club are actually making a move for the Championship boss.
