Late on Saturday night the Daily Mail published the latest instalment in the Bin Zayed Group’s Newcastle United takeover saga. This has been rumbling on for well over a month now, but yet no tangible progress has seemingly been made. Now, the Mail are reporting that an American hedge fund has been holding talks with the BZG in relation to their attempts to purchase the Magpies for between £300-£350million. The BZG are thought to be looking for external investment to help finance a deal, with direct talks between them and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley having been put on ice. The Toon Army have, unsurprisingly, treated this report with the disdain that they reserve for any and all takeover rumours. They have simply been burnt too many times to believe everything they read in regards to a takeover. Until the ink is dry on the contract and the club is out of the hands of Mr. Ashley, they will retain a healthy dose of skepticism.
