It is one of the least surprising transfer stories of the summer, but that still hasn’t stopped a number of Newcastle fans on Twitter from drooling over the prospect of Andy Carroll returning to Tyneside this summer. According to the Chronicle, Steve Bruce is interested in signing the 30-year-old on a free transfer after he was released by West Ham at the end of last season. Carroll is a Geordie and a Newcastle fan and although he walked out on his boyhood club to join Liverpool back in 2011, he could surely still do a job for the Magpies in the Premier League next term. Although Carroll’s injury record is horrific and there’s a good chance that he’ll miss parts of the 2019/20 campaign with whoever his next club is, the impact that he can make is more than any of Newcastle’s current strikers. Carroll is a proven entity and someone who will give 100 per cent for the club. Newcastle fans have every right to be happy with his potential return, as long as he isn’t handed a massive wage and can stay relatively fit.
