OPINION
Vasco da Gama forward Marrony appears to have divided a section of Newcastle United supporters on Twitter after it was reported by Portuguese newspaper Record that the Magpies are in advanced talks to sign the 20-year-old. Not a lot is known about Marrony as he has only made 22 appearances across all competitions in his career for Vasco, but one thing is for sure, Sporting CP’s interest in the Brazilian youngster is a good sign. Portuguese clubs regularly snap up youngsters from Brazil and introduce them to European football. If Marrony is on Sporting’s radar then it’s fair to assume that he is someone with decent potential. It’s understandable that some Newcastle fans would be sceptical about a young forward who has just one goal in senior football to his name. However it’s important to understand that although Marrony is naturally a striker, he has been forced to play out on the wing a lot at Vasco, who are hardly one of the better teams in Brazil’s Serie A as they currently sit 15th in the table and are plagued by financial issues.

We'd just ruin his potential. I'd like him at #nufc but if I were him, I'd go Portugal

I know nothing about this lad.
All I'll say is that I'm not concerned by the people quoting his stats or talking about how he plays for Vasco.
Who knew anything about Perez before we signed him? Did he have a great record at that point? Can only judge if/when he joins. #nufc
