Newcastle United are “not too far away” from wrapping up a deal for PSG full-back Stanley N’Soki, according to Chronicle journalist Andrew Musgrove.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Magpies in recent days, with French outlet RMC claiming on Sunday that a deal had already been agreed.

And while that doesn’t appear to be the case, Musgrove has suggested that it may not be too far off, and that the 20-year-old is also eager for the deal to go through.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Interesting claims on Stanley N’Soki – I’ve been told that the two parties are not ‘too far away’ from agreeing terms.

“He’s very keen to join by all accounts.”

OPINION

If this is true, then it is brilliant news for the Magpies. Steve Bruce desperately needs some cover at left full-back, and the Frenchman has all the pedigree and potential to be a fantastic addition. At 20, he is by no means the finished article, but he consistently holds is own for PSG, and now feels like the right time for him to move on and seek first team football. A pass completion rate of 86.9%, as well as managing 1.7 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game, as per Whoscored, illustrates a player who is more than capable of stepping into the breach, even as a relative newcomer. By the sounds of it, this one really does have legs, and the most promising detail is probably that the player himself is up for the move. Only time will tell how true Musgrove’s report is, but this is certainly enough to garner some optimism for the Toon Army.
