There is always a dark shadow surrounding Newcastle United over one thing or another, and this time it is continuing to grow.

As the Magpies arrived in China, nothing seemed cemented in place – with no new manager in place after the departure of Rafael Benitez has led to the club being the only side to not make a signing in the Premier League.

Newcastle posted an update on their official Twitter account, showing the squad arriving in China for the upcoming Premier League Asia Trophy.

The Newcastle squad were full of smiles as they stepped off the plane into Asia, an emotion which is surely in place to hide what is going on behind the scenes, which is confusing, to say the least.

One glaring omission from the travelling party was senior forward Joselu, who has been reported by Mundo Deportivo to be in advanced talks with La Liga club Alaves.

The writing is surely on the wall now for the 29-year-old, who would surely have featured in pre-season should Newcastle want to keep ahold of the forward.

Joselu wouldn’t leave many Magpies’ fans downhearted should he leave the club, with the 6ft 2in Spaniard not exactly excelling during his time at St James’ Park.

The 29-year-old only averaged 0.1 dribbles attempted per game last season, as well as only making 0.1 key passes per outing in the Premier League. [WhoScored]

Those stats only highlight the fact that the North East club would not miss the colossus forward, and are much better off without him in their side.

The writing is surely on the wall for Joselu, who will surely complete his exit away from the club in the coming weeks – new manager or not.
