Newcastle United are on the verge of signing Joelinton from Hoffenheim, according to Chronicle journalist Mark Douglas.

The reporter claimed via the newspaper’s website that sources in Germany are suggesting that a club-record deal is “imminent” with Newcastle set to complete their first signing of the summer transfer window.

It is understood that months of work has gone into the deal to sign Joelinton and that hard work now looks set to pay off.

Finally. It has been an agonizing wait for this deal to get done and dusted but it now seems as though Newcastle are set to welcome Joelinton to the club in a deal that smashes the Magpies’ transfer record for the second time in 2019. The 22-year-old Brazilian is bound to slot straight into Steve Bruce’s first team plans with Newcastle currently in desperate need of a new forward. Salomon Rondon’s exit at the end of last season when his loan deal expired left a huge void to fill, so Joelinton will have to work hard to meet expectations. Rondon was hardly the most prolific of strikers and neither is Joelinton, who scored just seven times in the Bundesliga last season. He is young though and if the Magpies are able to sign some good midfielders or wingers to work around him, they should find that Joelinton settles down well in England.
