Hoffenheim striker Joelinton is expected to undergo a medical with Newcastle United once the squad has returned from their pre-season trip to China, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

The reporter claimed on Sky Sports News on Monday night [07:30pm] that the Magpies have agreed a deal with the Bundesliga club but despite reports elsewhere, are yet to oversee a medical for the Brazilian.

“Newcastle have an agreement in place with Hoffenheim for striker Joelinton,” Sheth said.

“He’s expected to have a medical when the club returns from their pre-season tour.”

Goal journalist Ronan Murphy claimed last Thursday that Joelinton had completed a medical with Newcastle, however that no longer appears to be the case.

OPINION

Newcastle fans have been awaiting an update on their hunt to sign Joelinton from Hoffenheim and here it is. It seems rather obvious that the club’s trip to China has not helped them strike the deal for the Brazilian striker, but it sure looks as though there will be progress made in the coming days despite some premature reports last week. It would be a massive shock if Joelinton was not snapped up by Steve Bruce so fans just need to remain patient over the coming days, where we will hopefully see several new players recruited by the club. Bruce has inherited a squad that is weak in a lot of areas and even once Joelinton is signed, the Magpies will still need one more striker. It also remains to be seen what will happen in terms of outs. Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff and Jonjo Shelvey have all been linked with moves away from St James’ Park this summer but not a lot has really happened with them.
