Former Geordie Shore star Greg Lake claims he has heard two bits of good news for Newcastle United as he drops a cryptic hint over what it might be.

The Newcastle supporter, who made a name for himself on MTV’s reality show based in the city, claims on his personal Twitter account that he’s been told positive news is on the way for the Magpies, suggesting that it could well break this week.

He finished the tweet with a veiled clue about what the news could be, saying: “New signing but not new #R”

Newcastle fans endured a difficult time since the end of the season, manager Rafael Benitez leaving the club to go to China and Mike Ashley seemingly no closer to securing a sale which would end his ownership of the club.

Opinion

He might not be Ant and Dec, Sting, Cheryl Cole or Alan Shearer but in a one-club city like Newcastle you would not bet against someone like Lake knowing someone at St James’ Park. The Toon Army would do anything for a bit of good news right now and the promise of not one but two pieces coming their way will have their eyes lighting up to cut through the darkness that has fallen on Tyneside. Everything at this time of year should be taken with a pinch of salt but you cannot imagine Lake would want to wind up his fellow supporters by suggesting something is happening when it is not. He seems pretty confident there will be some news for the Toon Army to cheer and while Newcastle fans might have given up hope a long time ago, the change they want might be just around the corner. However, if Lake is telling fibs, do not expect to see him parading around the streets of the north east as he did in his party days.
