Steve Bruce has turned up for training with Sheffield Wednesday this morning as Newcastle United have yet to agree compensation for the 58-year-old, according to Sky Sports reporter Pete Graves.

Bruce has been heavily linked with a move to St. James’ Park, as reported by The Sun, but as yet, no official deal has been reached.

And the former Sunderland manager is still carrying out his duties at Hillsborough.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Graves said: “Steve Bruce arrives at Sheffield Wednesday training ground this morning amid reports compensation is yet to be agreed with Newcastle.”

OPINION

This maybe isn’t the most shocking news in the world, but it would certainly suggest that things aren’t quite as advanced as some sources would have you believe. It has looked for some time now as if Bruce is nailed on for the vacancy on Tyneside, and while that may still be the case, this latest report might just cast the slightest bit of doubt on the deal. If it was any other club, then this wouldn’t even be news, but the manner in which Newcastle conduct their business – protracted and with a tendency to fluff their lines – is always going to draw attention to the most minute of details. Bruce should still sign, make no mistake, but you cannot blame the Toon Army for having their reservations, and little snippets of information like this one will do little to ease the tension in the north east as the wait for some kind of stability rumbles on.
