Mark Goldbridge took a dig at Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic after Steve Bruce claimed he was confident that Sean Longstaff would be staying at Newcastle United.
The host of the United Stand, a show which has 511,704 subscribers on YouTube, shared while his fellow Man United fans would be happy as Bruce’s remarks on the Magpies midfielder make it sound very likely that the player isn’t heading to Old Trafford, he was open to the Newcastle man being signed as he could knock Matic out the team.
Goldbridge then took a clear jab at Matic as he cheekily shared that the Newcastle manager could probably take the £120,000-a-week player’s first-team spot. (Source: Spotrac)
“We don’t want to sell our best young players, that’s for sure. So that won’t happen,” wrote Goldbridge, via his personal Twitter account.

Manchester United’s chances of signing Longstaff this summer, get slimmer with each passing day. Sky Sports previously reported that while the 21-year-old midfielder was flattered by Man United’s interest, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team only valued the player as being worth half of the Magpies’ £50million asking price. This made it sound like a deal wasn’t going to be easy to reach, and Bruce’s public remarks about Longstaff, which were published by the Daily Mail, make a potential move to Man United for the midfielder sound all-but-dead. After all the Magpies manager wouldn’t go on the record about Longstaff staying if he wasn’t 100% sure that an exit wasn’t on the cards, as he’d look foolish if Longstaff suddenly joined Man United. Longstaff may have only managed nine league appearances last season after breaking into Rafa Benitez’s first-team plans due to an injury cutting his season short, but he showed enough to suggest he could make a real impact at St James Park. The midfielder scored one goal, had a pass completion rate of 89.8%, averaged 0.9 shots per game and averaged a rating of 6.86, as per WhoScored, which isn’t too shabby for a young player coming to terms with being thrown into the deep end.
