Newcastle United should wrap up a deal for Hoffenheim forward Joelinton “pretty quickly”, according to the Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old in recent days, as reported by the Daily Mail, and Edwards seems fairly confident of a deal being completed.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I think Joelinton, the Brazilian, will come in from Hoffenheim pretty quickly. He’s a good player.

“I saw him play against Manchester City twice last season, he’s in the Rondon mould.

“That’ll be a good signing for them.”

OPINION

Edwards seems fairly confident of this one going through, and if it does, then it might just provide a little bit of relief to the Toon masses. Make no mistake, no amount of signings are going to appease a disgruntled fanbase, but at the very least, signing a proven goalscorer will be an effective way of avoiding relegation. Joelinton looks as if he could be that figure. 11 goals last season is a decent enough return, while his pass completion rate of 79.3% and his average of 2.3 aerial duels won per match last season [Whoscored] show that there is more to his game than just scoring goals. At 22, don’t expect an absolute finished article, but the lad has potential to burn, and could prove to be a very astute capture for a team that increasingly threatens to capitulate at any given moment. Here’s hoping that Joelinton doesn’t disappoint.
