Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce has been spotted leaving Hillsborough by chauffeur-driven car, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, as speculation continues to mount over a potential move to Newcastle United.

The 58-year-old has been heavily linked with the vacant job at St. James’ Park in recent days, as reported by the BBC.

And it is understood that he left Wednesday’s ground by a specially driven car on Thursday afternoon, as detailed by Downie via his personal Twitter.

OPINION

This probably isn’t an everyday occurrence for Steve Bruce, and if it is, then you have to wonder about how much money he is on at Wednesday. It feels increasingly as if it’s a matter of when, rather than if, he will be given the job, and this latest development will only pour fuel on the fire. Whether Bruce is the right man remains to be seen, but hopes don’t appear to be too high on Tyneside. He has averaged 1.6 points or thereabouts in each of his last two posts [Transfermarkt], but that was in the Championship with situations that were decidedly less tense than the one he is walking into. How he handles that pressure could come to define whether or not he is a success in the north east, but he faces a tightrope walk between keeping the fans on side and not annoying Mike Ashley. Doing both simultaneously will be near impossible.
