Sam Allardyce has rejected the chance to return to Newcastle United as their next manager, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that talks collapsed last week after an offer was made to the 64-year-old, who had concerns with the Tyneside club’s recruitment policy.

It is understood that Mike Ashley had decided to identify the former Everton boss because he is currently out of work and wouldn’t require a compensation fee to bring to St James’ Park.

However Newcastle’s bid to seal a shock return for Allardyce is now reportedly over after the ex-England manager turned the Magpies down.

OPINION

Newcastle fans will surely be thrilled to see that Allardyce rejected a return to St James’ Park. Although it was clearly a blow for Ashley, who wanted to see Allardyce back at St James’ Park, the fact that they have been snubbed is a relief. Allardyce is just an even worse version of Steve Bruce, if anything. His style of football is rotten, as Everton fans found out during his previous spell in club management. It seems as though Ashley is going for a new manager who not only has Premier League experience, but also experience of managing clubs who are battling against relegation. Allardyce is someone who is known as a firefighter. Clubs who hire him usually avoid the drop, but at the cost of playing some truly horrendous football. Newcastle might need that to stay up next season, which just shows how poorly the club is being run by Ashley.
