Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez is waiting to find out the fate of Magpies manager Rafael Benitez before deciding his own future with the club, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that the 25-year-old is undecided over what his next move will be, with a return to his native Spain tempting as he looks to break into the national team.

Spanish outlet Cope reported on Monday that European giants Valencia are interested in his services, while other teams around the continent are thought to be in the mix as well.

The attacker is also waiting to find out whether he will be offered an improved contract extension, but even if that occurs and Benitez sticks around, he could still leave the club this summer.

OPINION

Clearly Perez is weighing up his options this summer after a fantastic end to the season for the Magpies. He really was tremendous down the stretch and it’s no surprise that there are plenty of teams in for his services. However, it’s the managerial uncertainty at St James’ Park which could really drive him into Valencia’s – or someone else’s – arms. Perez is keen to find out whether his compatriot Benitez is staying or going, while a new contract would be a nice bonus for him, as well. So there’s plenty for him to consider before deciding his future. Obviously he’s ambitious and wants to represent his national team, and if he feels like he won’t be able to do that with Newcastle then he may seek an exit this summer. Clearly he won’t have a lack of options. Plenty of teams have been linked with him already since the season ended, with Valencia merely the latest. However, the size of that club, plus a return to his homeland, could be what’s needed to turn Perez’s head.
