Newcastle United starlet Yannick Toure has been included in the Daily Mail‘s list of 18 and under wonderkids to watch in the Premier League next season.

The electric 18-year-old arrived on Tyneside to heaps of excitement last summer, with the Magpies having beaten off the likes of Arsenal and Juventus to secure his signature.

Niggling injuries and adaptation issues meant that the Swiss star was limited to just three goals in 11 Premier League 2 games in his debut campaign in English football.

However, he is very much seen as one for the future and joins the likes of Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Liverpool’s new signing Sepp van den Berg on the Mail’s list.

OPINION

Toure is probably one of the more unheralded names on this list, but he deserves his place there. He arrived at St James’ Park with much fanfare a year ago, but you have to give these young players time to develop. It’s not easy to make the switch to a foreign country and expect everything to go swimmingly. Toure had his issues over his first 12 months in England, but he also produced flashes of real potential. Ultimately he remains probably a year or two away from being in contention for the Magpies first team, but it’s always good to have hot young prospects like the Newcastle teenager in your back pocket. Whether Toure can go on to fulfil his potential and become a top class Premier League player remains to be seen, but he certainly has all the talent in the world necessary to make that happen. As ever, it may simply come down to his mind-set.
