Jose Mourinho has compared reported Newcastle United target Ismaila Sarr to Barcelona starlet Ousmane Dembele.
The Magpies were linked with the Rennes winger by a report in L’Equipe earlier in the week, and Mourinho has spoken out in praise of the 21-year-old, likening him to Barca ace Dembele, who cost the Catalan giants £135.5 million, as reported by the BBC.
As quoted in the Chronicle, he said: “If I speak [about players] I think that their agents will be very happy.
“But for example, I like Allan Saint-Maximin, I like his speed, and I think Ismaila Sarr has a little bit of [Ousmane] Dembele in him.
“There are a lot of players in Ligue 1 who have great potential.”
OPINION
If Mourinho recommends a player, you can all but guarantee that he is the real deal. The Special One may have suffered a bit of a fall from grace in recent times, but he is still one of the greatest managers the modern game has ever seen, and he has a superb eye for talent. Dembele may not have hit the heights that he was expected to at Barcelona, but he is still a wonderful player with a boatload of potential, and you can see why Mourinho is inclined to liken Sarr to him. Both have pace to burn, and both love nothing more than hurtling full tilt at defenders. If the Magpies could snap up the wide man, they would not only be buying a player for now, but a player for the future as well. Signing him will be no easy task, but if they were in any doubt about a move before, they definitely shouldn’t be now after Mourinho’s comments.
