Former Geordie Shore star Greg Lake has taken to Twitter to voice his anger over Rafa Benitez’s departure from Newcastle United.

The club confirmed on Monday that the Spaniard will not be renewing his current contract at St. James’ Park.

And writing on social, Lake, who was an original cast member on the hit MTV show based on Tyneside, was quick to express his dismay.

Responding to Sky Sports reporter Pete Graves’ request for fans to speak on the matter, he said: “Let me loose mate, I’m so angry”.

OPINION

At the moment, it’s hard to see any silver lining attached to the hulking grey cloud that has taken up residence over St. James’ Park today, but at the very least, the miserable news has united supporters like never before. It feels like everybody associated with Newcastle in some capacity has spoken out in anger at the situation, and Lake is just the latest in a long line of stars who have registered their dismay. The Toon Army have put up with a lot during Mike Ashley’s time at the club, but this surely has to be the catalyst that finally drives fans away in their droves. The Magpies are loyal to a fault, and they should be proud of that, but the time has come for supporters to vote with their feet. It’s the only way that Ashley will ever realise that his way of running the club is not acceptable, and even though it might sting in the short term, the long term reward – namely ousting the owner – would be well worth a few months away from St. James’ Park.
