The potential takeover of Newcastle United is moving forward and could be completed by the end of the month, according to the Sun.

The national newspaper claim that the Bin Zayed Group have submitted proof of funds to the Premier League, despite no comment from the league or Newcastle themselves.

Rafael Benitez’s future is a major talking point at the club with the Spaniard’s contract set to run out at the end of June, and the Sun reports that the potential new owners would like to keep Benitez at St James’ Park.

The Bin Zayed group are expected to keep the former Liverpool boss and make funds available for the transfer window.

OPINION

Everyone involved at Newcastle will have most likely just breathed a sigh of relief. The longer this reported takeover continues, the more people start to believe it will never happen for their club. With the Sun reporting that talks should conclude at the end of the month, it gives the Magpies a full month to complete their transfer business before the start of the Premier League. An added bonus is that of Benitez’s future, the Spaniard expected to be offered a new deal to stay at the club with his current contract set to run out at the end of June. Alongside the takeover, Benitez’s future is one of the biggest priorities in terms of keeping the fans happy in the North East. The Magpies’ boss has quickly become a hero at St James’ Park, and should he be given the chance he would relish the opportunity to kick on at the club after two years of stability in the Premier League. This is the Bin Zayed Group’s first real test, and should they secure Benitez they will be instantly off to a good start.
