Newcastle United have been offered the opportunity to make a move to sign Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson this summer, according to Sky Sports

The outlet report that Newcastle are one of a a trio of Premier League clubs, including Wolves and West Ham, who are interested in making a move to sign Sanson during the transfer window.

It is believed that Marseille are willing to sell a couple of their players this summer, following the Ligue 1 side failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with the French side looking for around £31.1 million for the 24-year-old

OPINION

Newcastle are in need of strengthening their midfield this summer, with the futures of both Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey unclear at the moment and having already released Mo Diame at the end of his contract. Sanson would be an ideal player for Newcastle to recruit having enjoyed an excellent campaign for Marseille in the French top flight last term, with the 24-year-old registering five goals and a further three assist last season. However, the fact that Sanson has been offered to a trio of clubs suggests that it could just be his agent trying to stir up interest in the midfielder. Sanson is thought to be valued at around £31.1 million according to the Sky Sports report, and it is very unlikely, unless the Magpies are taken over this summer, Newcastle would be willing to pay that sort of transfer fee for a single player in the transfer window. The midfielder would be a good signing, but it appears at this stage as though the chances of Newcastle completing a deal for him this summer are quite slim.
