Newcastle United are one of nine English teams in the hunt for Juventus starlet Stephy Mavididi, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet claims that the Magpies are interested in bringing the British-born 21-year-old in on loan, as are Everton, Southampton, Burnley, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Derby County, Fulham and Middlesbrough.

The attacker spent the majority of the season with the Old Lady’s development side, but eventually made his first team debut towards the end of the campaign.

He is the first English player to feature for Juve since David Platt, and his emergence has prompted Rafael Benitez’s side to enquire over his availability next term.

OPINION

This is a really interesting story from TEAMtalk. Mavididi obviously took the plunge in joining Juventus, leaving the United Kingdom, and has secured himself a place at one of the finest teams in world football. He did well with the development team by all accounts this campaign, and clearly did enough to attract former manager Massimiliano Allegri’s attention. For him to make his first team debut for Juventus is quite an achievement, but now it’s about getting him regular first team football. Mavididi certainly seems like a high level prospect, while Newcastle are in need of attacking reinforcements, so this would be an excellent loan signing for the Magpies. Whether they’d be able to beat the other teams in for him remains to be seen. You’d think they’d have the edge over the Championship sides, but it’s unknown whether they could beat Everton, Saints, Burnley and Villa. Stiff competition, but if Newcastle could get him in it would be a smart signing.
