In an ideal world, things would be a whole lot different at Newcastle United right now. Midway through June, the club is still unsure as to what is happening with regards to the Bin Zayed Group’s takeover, Rafa Benitez is still yet to agree a new deal, and there is no concrete proof of any kind of transfer activity. Hopefully, however, that last point will change sooner rather than later. According to L’Equipe, the Magpies have been linked with Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr. The 21-year-old Senegalese ace has enjoyed a stellar season in France, hitting 13 goals and assisting 11 more, and it is understood that the Magpies could be looking to launch a club record bid for him. But fans are having none of it. Geordies don’t suffer fools, or foolish ideas, particularly well, and you can understand why there is widespread scepticism over this one. The fact that the club can’t even get itself together enough to tie down Benitez when he is literally right in front of them doesn’t bode very well for their chances of wrapping up a mega money deal for a player of Sarr’s calibre. Maybe this transfer will come off one day, but if it happens this summer, it will be a miracle.
