OPINION

Newcastle United released their 2019/20 home kit on their official Twitter account on Wednesday, and the reaction from the supporters has been undoubtedly negative. The club could have made life much easier for themselves, though, by not saying that the shirt is inspired by the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup-winning kit worn by Newcastle 50 years ago. Frankly, the shirt doesn’t resemble that one in the slightest. It looks nothing like it! The only thing they’ve replicated is the collar, apart from that it is a completely different kit and a completely different style to the one from 1969. That one had plenty of narrow, black and white stripes. This one, on the other hand, has about three thick stripes across the front of it and then solid black sleeves. Plus the badge is in the centre of this one, whereas it was on the left of the 1969 one. So it’s not inspired by the one from fifty years ago, is it? It’s not a great shirt in all honesty and there’s no surprise that it hasn’t gone down well with the fans.

Nothing but Newcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets below.
