Marvelous Nakamba is pushing for a transfer away from Club Brugge this summer amid interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian newspaper claims that Nakamba, 25, is attracting attention from across Europe and has suggested that a move away from Brugge before the start of next season is very likely to happen.

It is understood that Club Brugge will consider cashing in on the Zimbabwe international if they are offered a fair price for him.

OPINION

Newcastle will more than likely need to bolster their midfield options at some point this summer and a defensive midfielder like Nakamba could be just what the Magpies need. Although there is so much uncertainty surrounding the Tyneside club with the future of both Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley both up in the air, there will still be some staff at St James’ Park who are looking at potential transfers for this summer. Nakamba had a decent season with Club Brugge in 2018/19. He made 23 appearances in all competitions as his side finished as runners-up in the Jupiler League and play a role in 0-0 draws against both Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group-stages. According to stats by WhoScored, Nakamba had a pass accuracy of 84 per cent in his five Champions League appearances and also boasted 4.4 tackles per game. Newcastle have released Mohamed Diame since the end of last season and might still lose Isaac Hayden, so Nakamba could be a decent replacement.
