The word revelation gets tossed about a lot these days.

Whenever a player gas a decent couple of games, or finds his form after a spell in the wilderness, pundits and press begin to drool over him as though it is some kind of major surprise.

With regards to Sean Longstaff, however, the word revelation is more than justified.

The Newcastle United academy product came into the centre of midfield for his boyhood club around the turn of the year and made an immediate impact on things.

It is no coincidence that the Geordies recorded a serious upturn in form with him partnering Isaac Hayden in the engine room, and his goal against Manchester City helped the Magpies on their way to a famous win that, retrospectively, helped change the course of their season.

It is no surprise, therefore, that he is attracting attention from elsewhere.

For all he only featured nine times in the Premier League, it is easy to see why Manchester United are said to be keen on buying him this summer, as reported by the Mirror.

For Newcastle, that would be a seismic blow, with the 21-year-old seen as a long term part of the club’s plans.

The Toon Army will be relived to hear, therefore, that the Reds are understood to have revived their interest in £40 million midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian was a big hit on loan at Leicester City, and it is unlikely that United would move for both him and Longstaff in the same summer.

If United can wrap up a deal for the 22-year-old, it would surely be music to Toon ears.
