The deal to send Newcastle United striker Joselu to La Liga club Alaves is set to be completed within a matter of hours, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish outlet claims that the 29-year-old will soon no longer be a Magpies player and will instead be representing Asier Garitano’s side.
Alaves are thought to have already agreed terms with the former Stoke City frontman, who was used sparingly by Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez this season.
However, it appears that he will soon have relief from his St James’ Park torment.
There won’t be many tears shed on Tyneside when Joselu does eventually depart – hopefully pretty soon. The striker’s arrival at the club was greeted indifferently at best and he has done little during his time in the north east to turn the supporter’s heads’. He’s a hard-working player but he’s not a starting calibre attacker in the Premier League. We saw that at Stoke and we’ve seen it at Newcastle, so it’s about time that he left English football this summer. A move back to his homeland of Spain appears to be the best outcome for him and hopefully he can rediscover his best form. Alaves are seemingly keen to bring in as many Premier League outcasts as possible this off season, having already signed Lucas Perez from West Ham United. They are hoping that they’ll be able to turn these guys’ careers around. Hopefully they do, there’s no reason why anyone at Newcastle should wish Joselu ill. It’s just that it hasn’t worked out for him at St James’ Park.
