Newcastle United are keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott this summer once his contract runs out, according to The Sun

The newspaper report that the 21-year old will be leaving the London club once his contract expires at the end of June, and that the youngster could be going straight to St. James’ Park.

The Sun also understands that Rafa Benitez is ready to take a punt on the midfielder, who won the FA Youth Cup with Chelsea, as well as winning the UEFA Youth League twice throughout his time with the Blues.

Scott spent the first half of last season on loan with Telstar in Holland, and featured 14 times in all competitions scoring two goals along the way.

OPINION

This seems like a slightly strange move for the Magpies to go for, especially considering that the youngster hasn’t really made too much of a name for himself for the London club as of yet. However, as Scott will be without a club come the end of June once his contract has expired, Newcastle effectively have nothing to lose, and won’t have to pay an extortionate sum of wages for the services of the 21-year old. Scott has only actually made one single appearance for Chelsea in his career with the club, appearing in an FA Cup win over Hull City last season, but will be looking to continue developing and fight for his chance in the Premier League with a move to Newcastle. However it’s understandable why he struggle to feature more for Chelsea as they have been successful in recent season despite not using their academy. In fact Chelsea finished third in the league in their 2018/19 campaign. Benitez could be the man to get the most out of the 21-year old, who looks to have been slightly given up on by Maurizio Sarri and the Chelsea team.
