Adrian Durham claimed Newcastle United could sell attacker Miguel Almiron for in the region of £40million if an offer emerged.
The talkSPORT broadcaster questioned why the 25-year-old attacking midfielder would stay at the Magpies after the club confirmed the exit of Rafa Benitez.
“Why would he stay? Rafa has gone,” said Durham on talkSPORT (17:42, Monday June 24th).
“The man he signed for is gone, why would he stay?”
Darren Gough then appeared to agree with Durham’s suggestion that the Magpies could sell Almiron, and questioned how much they would get.
“And Newcastle would make money, bought him for £20million and would could they sell him for?” pondered Gough.
Durham quickly responded to say “Double that I would think”

Durham is just kicking Newcastle fans while they’re down by suggesting the club could sell Almiron, and Gough agreeing with him doesn’t help matters. With it now known that Benitez is set to exit St James Park, the last thing Newcastle fans will want to see happen is talented members of their squad follow his lead. Almiron joined the Magpies in January from MLS side Atlanta United for about £20million, as per BBC, and it shouldn’t even be an option that he could soon depart. While Durham seems mystified as to why the 25-year-old could possibly want to stay at St James Park without Benitez, at the end of the day he signed for the Magpies, not Benitez FC. Almiron has a contract with the Magpies until 2024 and his career at St James Park is only in the early stages. The attacking midfielder only showed glimpses of his talent after arriving at the club in January as he managed only 10 appearances before being struck down by injury. The 25-year-old didn’t manage to score or register an assist, and for that reason, it’s hard to imagine a team wanting to give the Magpies £40million for him just yet on the basis of him having a 42% shooting accuracy (Source: Premier League).
