Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is keen for the Magpies to make a summer move for Pairs Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, according to the Daily Express.

The newspaper claims that the Spaniard is weighing up a swoop for the 28-year-old, who finds himself down the pecking order in the French capital under Thomas Tuchel.

The German international has won 10 trophies in four years since moving to PSG in 2015, but spent this season on loan at Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Express’s report also states that Gimnasia La Plata star Jan Hurtado is a £7million target for Benitez as well.

OPINION

Goalkeeper would not appear to be an obvious area of need for Newcastle, given that Martin Dubravka is firmly entrenched as number one and is capably backed up by Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman and Rob Elliot. Benitez, perhaps, has grown frustrated with the Slovakian number one after he made a number one costly errors this season. That would be harsh, considering that Dubravka has also bailed the Magpies out many more times than he has dropped them in it. Still, Trapp is an excellent ‘keeper who was unlucky to be shunted out of Paris last summer. He rebuilt his reputation, however, with an excellent stint at former club Frankfurt this campaign. If Benitez does feel that he needs a replacement for Dubravka, then the serial-winning German would be an ideal solution. Whether he can get Trapp probably depends on the mooted takeover of Newcastle by the Bin Zayed Group, as referenced in the Express’s report.
