It is only a matter of time until Newcastle United striker Joselu seals a summer move to La Liga side Alaves, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claims that the Magpies frontman, who is on a reported £40,000-per-week at St James’ Park [Source: Spotrac], will soon leave Tyneside.

Asier Garitano’s side have already secured the signing of West Ham United attacker Lucas Perez, and it appears that his countryman could be abut to join him.

The 29-year-old made just 20 appearances for Rafael Benitez’s time this term, scoring three goals.

OPINION

It’s about time that Joselu leaves Newcastle, both for the team and for his own good. He’s never going to be first choice under Benitez, that much is clear. So if he wants first team football then he needs to depart this summer. Alaves would seem to be as good a destination as any. They’ve already brought in Perez from West Ham, so it’s clear that they’re on a mission to sign the Premier League’s lost sheep. In all seriousness, though, Joselu needs a fresh start and a return to his homeland would be the ideal solution. If he can get a good partnership going with his compatriot Perez then it might just turn his career around. It’s unlikely that his sale will bring in much money for Benitez’s transfer kitty, but every little helps. The fee could end up being the difference between Newcastle being able to afford a new signing or not, so they should move him off as quickly as possible.
