Newcastle United starlet Elias Sorensen has admitted he is waiting for the club to decide his next move after an up-and-down season.

The 19-year-old scored a phenomenal 20 goals for the Magpies second string this campaign, but endured a hugely frustrating time on loan at League One side Blackpool.

Now he’s had his say: “Look, my loan at Blackpool didn’t go as I wanted it to,” he told The Chronicle. “I came back here and I have just tried to work hard, and I’ll keep doing that next season. That’s what I always do.

“I’m open minded. I am just waiting to see what the club want me to do. If they want me to go on loan I will happily do that and if they want me to stay I will be happy to do that. It is just up to the club what happens now.”

OPINION

Sorensen enjoyed a hugely profitable breakthrough campaign for Newcastle this season, and it was just a shame that his momentum was stalled by that ill-fated loan spell at Blackpool. The topsy-turvy nature of his season means that the next campaign is a hugely important one for him. He scored bucket loads of goals for the Magpies reserves last time out, and the question will be whether the club want to keep him around so that he can do that again or send him out on another loan. If they do the latter then they will need to make sure they choose where he ends up very carefully. His time at Blackpool always reeked of disaster. It was too soon for him to be sent to a League One side, especially one who were hunting the Play Offs at the time. He needed to be with a National League side, or possibly a League Two team. The third tier was simply too much for him at that stage of his career. So if he does go out on loan next term, Newcastle need to be very smart about it.
