Salomon Rondon has seemingly expressed his desire to stay at Newcastle United next season, but has admitted that the matter is out of his hands.

The Venezuelan put in another stellar performance in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday evening, scoring his side’s second in a game that could prove to be his last at St. James’ Park.

But, as quoted in the Daily Mail, the striker has suggested that he would like to stay on Tyneside.

He said: “Maybe it is my last game here. That would be a shame for my family because they are settled here. It is out of my hands.

“I have to wait and see if West Brom get promoted. This is the first reason.. I have to see if Rafa stays. There are many things – Newcastle, West Brom, Rafa, me.

“But for me, I feel really, really proud to be here, to play in the No 9 shirt.”

OPINION

This is what Newcastle fans will have wanted to hear. Rondon has been a revelation at St. James’ Park, and has understandably become a real fan favourite during his season on Tyneside. Not only has he scored plenty of goals, but he has elevated the quality of those around him with his selfless displays and exemplary hold-up play. He is the best number nine this club has had in a long, long time, and to lose him after just one year would be a real shame. Obviously, as Rondon states, things are out of his hands, but at the very least it would appear that he is happy and settled at Newcastle. For a player of his age, with a family to consider and the like, that is a big thing, and the fact that he has been taken so emphatically into the hearts of the Toon Army could well prove to be the key factor in convincing him to stay.
