Ayoze Perez has taken to Twitter to congratulate Salomon Rondon on his Newcastle United Player of the Year award.

The Venezuelan was given the accolade after a stellar campaign on loan from West Brom in which he has hit 11 goals in all competitions.

And Perez, who himself is enjoying a rich vein of form, has been quick to congratulate his teammate on his success.

Replying to Rondon’s tweet on his award, he said: “Muy merecido hermano”, which translates from Spanish as: “Well deserved brother”.

OPINION

How much would Newcastle fans love to see these two back on Tyneside together next season? Perez and Rondon have become one of the most dangerous attacking duos outside of the top six in recent weeks, but neither one is a certainty when it comes to staying at St. James’ Park next term. Losing one would be painful, losing both would be disastrous. The Magpies haven’t had a striker as effective as Rondon in quite some time, and as Perez continues to flourish alongside him, the Spaniard is beginning to look like a real steal as well. The issue for Newcastle is that they are set up as a selling club under Mike Ashley, and so any time one of their star men begin to look the least bit handy, they are instantly targeted as an easy buy for a bigger club. If the Toon Army are to have any kind of success, they need to change that reputation.
