Newcastle United have joined the hunt to sign Wolfsburg’s promising 19-year-old striker Charles-Jesaja Herrmann this summer, according to Turkishfootball.com

The Turkish website reports that Herrmann, who has been in good form this season scoring 12 goals and registering seven assists for Wolfsburg’s Under-19s side this season, is attracting interest from Rafa Benitez’s side according a source who is close to the striker.

Newcastle could have plenty of competition to secure the Germany Under-19 international’s signature, with the likes of Everton, Celtic, and Turkish side Galatasaray also interested in making a summer move for the centre-forward.

OPINION

Newcastle will be looking to improve their attacking options this summer, with the club’s board needing to convince Benitez that they are willing to back him in the transfer market in order for him to remain in charge at St James’ Park. A move for Wolfsburg’s Herrmann would potentially be a positive sign to the Spaniard that Newcastle are able to secure transfer moves for promising players who are attracting interest form a number of other club’s. The 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) striker has been in good form for Wolfsburg’s U19 sides this summer, suggesting that he maybe ready to make the step up towards regular first team football in the near future. Newcastle will hope that they are able to provide him with the opportunity to progress further in his career, if they are able to secure a move for the Germany youth international. However, the Magpies will need to act swiftly if they are able to secure Herrmann’s signature with other club’s interested in making a move, and it will be interesting to see how much the club’s board are willing to back Benitez this summer in an attempt to keep him in charge of the club.
