OPINION

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday that Premier League giants and top six residents Manchester United are interested in a move for Magpies midfielder Sean Longstaff. The news, rather understandably, didn’t go down well with the Toon Army. Look, Longstaff is an exciting prospect and a wonderful footballer who is only going to get better. However, you have to be realistic about these things. If United were to come in with a concrete offer, a big money deal worth £30million+, then Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will certainly consider it, there’s no doubt about that. He’s a businessman, and he’ll see the profit he could make off an academy product who cost him nothing as majorly attractive. That’s not to say that the Magpies can’t keep Longstaff, but a sense of perspective is needed. United have fallen on hard times, but they’re still an unbelievably big club who would tempt anyone. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with this one.
