Newly-promoted Norwich City could reignite interest in Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Norwich, who won the Championship title this season, have previously shown an interest in Gayle and could potentially revive their bid to sign him this summer, as the club prepares for life back in the Premier League.

Gayle spent the season on loan with Championship side West Brom, with the 28-year-old having an impressive season scoring 24 goals in 34 appearances as the Baggies just missed out on promotion losing in the play-off semi-finals.

OPINION

It will be interesting to see what happens with the future of Gayle this summer, with the striker unlikely to be in Benitez’s plans for next season having spent the season out on loan in the Championship. Norwich could be a decent option for the 28-year-old if the newly promoted side do decide to make a move for the forward, who has shown his ability to score goals in the Championship but has perhaps not shown that ability consistently enough in the Premier League in his career. Gayle will be hoping to either re-establish himself at Newcastle or find a move to another Premier League club this summer, having spent the year in the Championship, and a move to a newly promoted club might be a way in which he can ensure he is a top flight player next term. Benitez, if he remains in charge will be looking to bring in some more attacking options to strengthen his squad this summer, therefore if the Magpies can receive some money for Gayle, who is unlikely to play regularly next season, it could prove to be useful for the Spaniard’s transfer plans. For both parties this summer it looks like Gayle moving on might be the best option.
