Image for Perez reveals when he will make decision on future

Newcastle United regular Ayoze Perez will only make a decision on his future at the club after a holiday in Spain, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper claims that the 25-year-old will make a final call on what he’ll do next, amid a report from the Northern Echo earlier this month that Italian giants Napoli and some Spanish teams are monitoring his situation.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is desperate to keep hold of the former Tenerife man, but Perez will wait until he has finished his holiday in his native Spain before deciding on his future.

He left for the trip earlier this week, and will presumably be eyeing the future of Benitez himself before making his own decision.

OPINION

This Perez situation has turned into a particularly worrying one for Newcastle fans. His form over the second half of the season was bound to increase the interest in his services, but it’s clear that he feels he has a very big decision to make this summer. To be fair to him, he is at the age now where he needs to either commit to staying long-term at St James’ Park or move on and try and take the next step in his career. Obviously he could go and move on to another big club, with Napoli obviously offering Champions League and Serie A football, but the Toon Army will be praying that that doesn’t happen. Ultimately this is a personal decision and it’s up to the player what he chooses to do, but you’d think that if Benitez opts to leave then Perez will almost certainly be off as well. However, the ideal situation for the Magpies supporters is obviously if the two Spaniards decide to stay where they are.
