Newcastle want Abraham

Newcastle United could make a move for Tammy Abraham this summer, according to the Northern Echo.

The striker has been in irresistible form for Aston Villa this season during a wildly successful loan spell from Chelsea in which he has hit 25 goals.

He will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of Villa’s play-off campaign, however, and it is understood that the Magpies could be willing to make a permanent move for the 6’2″ colossus [Transfermarkt] should his parent club decide to sell.

OPINION

This would be a fantastic move for the Magpies. Abraham is ready for the big time after paying his dues at both Swansea City and Villa, and his form this season has made him one of the most exciting prospects in the English game. 25 goals in any division is not to be sniffed at, but in the Championship, where everything seems to be that little bit more arduous, that is a seriously impressive return. There are, however, a lot of variables in this. For one thing, the Toon Army already have Salomon Rondon, and it’s hard to see Mike Ashley forking out on two strikers in the same summer. Chances are the Venezuelan would be a cheaper option, and one already proven on Tyneside, but it is easy to see United turning to Abraham if things do fall apart in their pursuit of the South American. Whether Abraham would be willing to move that far north is another big question, but with Rafa Benitez at the helm, supporters will feel that anything is possible.
