Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon gave his thoughts on his future, after the Venezuelan helped the Magpies to a 4-0 win at Fulham in the final Premier League game of the season.

Rondon scored the fourth and final goal of the game in the 90th minute, to round off Newcastle’s convincing win with his 11th and final Premier League goal of the season.

The Venezuela international has been a key part of the Magpies’ season after joining on loan from West Bromwich Albion, but with his loan spell now coming to an end he reflected on his season at St James’ Park and suggested that his future is still undecided.

“For me, for a striker, I’m always happy when I score, and scoring goals is the only thing in my mind,” Rondon told Newcastle’s official club website after the win on Sunday.

“I’m here, I’m really happy – I scored 11 goals (in the Premier League), 12 for the season, so I’m really happy. I did my job, and this is the reason the gaffer brought me here – to help the team. I did, and we’ll have to wait.”

OPINION

Rondon has had a very good season on loan at Newcastle from West Brom, with the Venezuelan a major part of Benitez’s squad who have managed to secure their Premier League status for another season finishing in 13th place. The striker has become something of a fans favourite at St James’ Park, with his powerful presence up front allowing Newcastle to get further up the pitch and cause problems for opposing teams. Rondon has scored 12 goals in all competitions and those goals will be missed, as well as his physical presence, next season if the Magpies do not manage to secure a permanent deal for the forward. Not only that will be missed, but also the partnership he has managed to form with Perez in the second half of the season, with the pair building a good understanding of each other’s games as the season has progressed. Newcastle will hope they are able to keep hold of Rondon ahead of next season, with the striker looking like he is keen to stay, but that could depend on what happens with Benitez’s situation.
