Newcastle United are plotting a potential summer swoop for out of favour Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Magpies are weighing up a move for the speedster, as are their Premier League rivals Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The Toffees are looking to offload the DR Congo international this summer for £7million+, having sent him out on loan to Aston Villa and Anderlecht this season.

TEAMtalk reported in January that Rafael Benitez’s side were attempting to sign the 29-year-old after he returned to Goodison Park from his time at Villa.

OPINION

This is a bit of an interesting one from a Newcastle perspective and will likely get a mixed reception from the club’s supporters. Bolasie never really kicked on after his big move to Everton, but he was certainly an excellent Premier League performer during his time at Palace. The question is whether he is still the same player now as he was then. He did OK at Villa and fairly well with Anderlecht, but the Premier League is obviously a much higher standard to the sort of teams he was facing with those two sides. £7million isn’t a lot of money by top flight standards so this wouldn’t be a high risk move, but you still wonder whether the player has anything left in the tank? A productive winger would be welcome at St James’ Park, where the likes of Kenedy and Jacob Murphy have failed to get the job done, so there is room for Bolasie to come in and make an impact. However, he may well end up back at Palace.
