Journalist Chris Waugh claimed on The Chronicle’s news and transfer centre [21/05; 16:36] that Newcastle United could make a move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Jetro Willems, while the player himself told VTBL that the Magpies are interested in him. All signs seem to be pointing towards a potential summer move for the Dutch international, but it seems as if the majority of the club’s supporters aren’t convinced. They’re either burnt out by previous links to the 25-year-old or simply don’t believe that he would make much of an impact for Rafael Benitez’s side. He’s one of those players who seemed destined for a huge career when he burst onto the scene at such a young age with PSV Eindhoven. However, things simply haven’t worked out for him. Perhaps that’s due to the player himself or bad luck with injuries, but he’s certainly not progressed as much as everyone expected he would. Still, he could potentially do a job as a squad option for Newcastle next season.
