West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon spent the entirety of the 2018/19 season at Newcastle United, but it now appears as if he may not be at St James’ Park next campaign. The Express & Star reported on Saturday that the Venezuelan is interested in a move to the Magpies’ Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are happy to meet his £16million release clause. Their report states that Rafael Benitez’s side are also interested in signing the player, who was named the club’s Player of the Season recently. The news has been met with a mixed response from the Toon Army. Some are doubtful that the 29-year-old really wants to move to Wolves and sit on the bench behind Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota, whereas others are frustrated that Newcastle haven’t sealed a deal themselves yet. Then there are people who simply doubt the validity of the story. It’s an interesting one, but it’s no surprise that other teams are interested in Rondon after the season he had. It’s up to the Magpies, really, whether he returns to Tyneside or not. So let’s wait and see what happens.
